Your shelves

๐Ÿงฑ Layout

Layout shows all your cabinets with their shelves and what stands on them. Neighbouring albums of one artist form a block; the number on a block is how many albums it holds โ€” click it to split the block into single albums. A bar on each shelf shows how full it is.

When your cabinets are spread over rooms, each room gets a tab. Go to cabinetโ€ฆ at the top stays in view while you scroll and jumps to any cabinet, or to the albums not on a shelf.

โœ‹ Moving albums

Drag a block to another spot on the same shelf, or to another shelf. Every move is saved at once, and a version of the layout from before you started is kept.

On a phone, hold a block for a moment until it lifts, then drag it. A quick swipe that starts on a block scrolls the page instead, so you don't move albums by accident.

For a shelf far away, use the โ‹ฎ on a block (or right-click it) and pick the shelf from the list: the block goes to the end of that shelf, and the page jumps there so you can drag it to its exact spot.

๐Ÿ—„๏ธ Cabinets and shelves

Cabinets describes your storage: each cabinet with its room and its shelves, in the order you walk them โ€” the order Browse follows and a proposal fills. The arrows change that order. A shelf has a name, a width, and optionally a type (top- or front-loader), a row (top or bottom), and a reachability score.

A cabinet can be kept outside the sorting โ€” for records set aside, storage elsewhere, or a case you are still going to buy. What stands there stays, and a proposal adds nothing to it.

A shelf can only be removed once it is empty, and a cabinet once it has no shelves, so nothing ever loses its place by tidying up.

๐Ÿ“ Measured or estimated widths

How many records fit on a shelf depends on its width. Widths taken from a workbook are estimates, shown as โ‰ˆ โ€” they tend to come out too narrow. Once you have measured a shelf, enter its width and tick I measured this width.

Only a measured shelf that is too full is marked in red and counted as waiting on the Dashboard. A shelf over its estimated width is shown in grey: it mostly says the shelf needs measuring.

Album widths are estimated from their format (see Settings). Box sets and bundles vary too much for that; measure them under Cabinets โ†’ Album widths.

๐ŸชŸ Showcase

A showcase is a top-loader that holds a sample of the artists you have most of, facing front. Mark a top-loader as a showcase under Cabinets; the albums standing on it become its sample. The Showcase screen shows, per artist, how many of their albums are on display, and lets you exchange one for another: each album takes the other's spot, so the top-loader and the shelf hold as many albums as before.

A proposal leaves a showcase exactly as it is.

โช Versions

Every layout you had can be brought back. A version is saved when you load a workbook, when you accept a proposal, before you move albums by hand (at most once an hour), and whenever you choose to. Put back restores where your albums stood โ€” nothing else โ€” after saving the layout you have now, so you can always return.
